Designing ERP Around How Work Actually Happens

Most ERP failures are process failures. Mapping the real workflow before configuration is cheaper than customising afterwards.

Teams rarely abandon an ERP because a feature is missing. They abandon it because the system asks them to work in an order they do not work in.

Mapping the physical process first — who touches the stock, when the batch is closed, where packaging is recorded — makes configuration a translation exercise rather than a negotiation.

Customisation should be the last resort, applied to the two or three steps that genuinely differ, not to the whole flow.
